Scouting the Ravens' No. 26 spot: Phillip Dorsett

The Baltimore Ravens hold the No. 26 pick in the 2015 NFL draft. For two weeks, the Ravens blog has taken a quick look at 10 prospects who might be available and be a fit for Baltimore at that spot. We wrap up this series with one of the fastest players in the draft:

Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami

Chances he's available at No. 26: The general thinking over the last couple of months is Dorsett is going to fall somewhere between late first round and early second. Then, on Thursday night, Mel Kiper Jr. projects Dorsett to go to the Houston Texans at No. 16 overall in the Kiper-McShay head-to-head mock draft. In his latest mock draft, Todd McShay has Dorsett going to the New Orleans Saints at No. 31.

Why he'd be a good pick for the Ravens: Dorsett would more than fill the void left by Torrey Smith, who left for San Francisco as a free agent. Dorsett is a burner like Smith but he is a smoother route runner and has much better hands. Dorsett is one of the best playmakers in this draft. Half of his 36 catches last season went for 25 yards or more. His speed also gives him intriguing potential as a returner, which the Ravens need after cutting Jacoby Jones. Dorsett has a reputation for having a strong work ethic.

Why he wouldn't: Durability is an issue because of his size (5-foot-9, 185 pounds). In 2013, he injured his shoulder early in the season and then missed five games after partially tearing his MCL. There are questions about his ability to read defenses and ball security. His lack of strength can limit him as a run-blocker.

Stat to note: Ten of Dorsett's 36 catches were touchdowns.

Extra point: McShay listed Dorsett as the player who raised his stock the most at the Senior Bowl in January.
