Scouting the Ravens' No. 26 spot: Breshad Perriman

The Baltimore Ravens hold the No. 26 pick in the 2015 NFL draft. Over the next two weeks, the Ravens blog will take a quick look at 10 prospects who might be available and be a fit for Baltimore at that spot. We continue with a fast-rising wide receiver prospect:

Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida

Chances he's available at No. 26: Uncertain at this point. Mock drafts have Perriman going as high as the top 10 and as low as the bottom of the first round. It all depends on whether teams value his height-speed combination or have concerns about his ball skills. Perriman is one of the wild cards of the first round.

Why he'd be a good pick for the Ravens: Perriman is the big-play receiver that the Ravens desperately need. The Ravens never replaced Torrey Smith in free agency, and Perriman brings a 20-yard per-catch average over the past two seasons. His size (6-foot-2, 212 pounds) and speed (running the 40-yard dash in 4.25 seconds at his pro day) are what all teams covet at receiver. Perriman isn't afraid to go over the middle and can produce yards after the catch. He's also an effective run blocker. Perriman has the tools to be a No. 1 receiver in the NFL. The Ravens need to add speed to a wide receiver group that includes Steve Smith Sr. and a bunch of possession receivers.

Why he wouldn't: He's an unpolished route runner with suspect hands, which makes him a risk as a first-round pick. His drop rate was nearly 14 percent, according to Pro Football Focus. Production is also a concern. Perriman only had one season at Central Florida where he caught more than 40 passes.

Stat to note: Perriman had a stretch where he caught a touchdown in seven straight games.

Extra point: Here is a video that includes Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay discussing Perriman's value.
