Titans' Rishard Matthews to wear 'We are one' cleats

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans WR Rishard Matthews will use his cleats as a way to express his feelings about racial inequality and President Donald Trump's verbal attack on NFL players and those who protest.

Matthews' red, white and blue cleats read "We are One" and "We all bleed the Same."

This is an evolving stance for Matthews, who initially was against the protests Colin Kaepernick started last season due to the wide receiver's ties to the military. Matthews' brother died while serving his country as a private defense contractor in Afghanistan.

Once Matthews got to the core of the protests, though, he realized that he could be pro-military and still express his views on racial inequality.

"We're men that play football. We're not just football players," Matthews told ESPN last month, noting that protests have been discussed among several black Titans players.

Since the start of the 2016 season, Titans defensive tackle Jurrell Casey and linebacker Wesley Woodyard have been raising their right fists after the national anthem in protest of police brutality and racial inequality.

Matthews has also posted several tweets speaking against Trump's condemnation of NFL players who protest.
