NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans quarterback Cameron Ward's hometown of West Columbia, Texas, is naming a street after him. The West Columbia City Council voted at its July meeting to approve the renaming of North 17th Street to Cam Ward Way.
The honor will be for ceremonial purposes only, as residents who live on North 17th Street will not have their address changed. According to West Columbia Mayor Laurie Kincannon, the city council was in communication with the Titans to obtain permission to use the team logo.
"It was a very positive interaction, and they are excited to see West Columbia honor Cam in this way," Kincannon said via social media.
Ward starred for Columbia High School before going on to play for the Incarnate Word Cardinals, Washington State Cougars and Miami Hurricanes, where he set the career combined FCS (71) and FBS (87) record with 158 total passing touchdowns. The Titans selected Ward with the No. 1 pick in April's draft.
The Ward family told ESPN that North 17th Street is where Cam Ward's mother, Patrice Ward, grew up.
