Now that the buzz of free agency has died down some, let’s take a look at where things stand with the Indianapolis Colts roster on the offensive side of the ball.
Just note, there's still the draft and other likely changes to come on the roster between now and the start of training camp.
Quarterbacks: Andrew Luck, Matt Hasselbeck
The re-signing of Hasselbeck may not seem like a big deal, but his experience goes a long way in helping Luck. Hasselbeck decided to put retirement on hold to return for his 17th season.
Running backs: Frank Gore, Daniel “Boom” Herron, Vick Ballard, Jeff Demps, Zurlon Tipton
Ballard is the wild card of the group. He’s only played one game the past two seasons because of a torn ACL and Achilles. A healthy Ballard, who rushed for 814 yards as a rookie in 2012, gives the Colts a solid one-two punch at running back with Gore. Herron and Tipton ended last season as the Colts’ top two running backs.
Receivers: T.Y. Hilton, Andre Johnson, Donte Moncrief, Duron Carter, Kadron Boone, Ryan Lankford, Josh Lenz, Griff Whalen
You know what you’re going to get out of Hilton, Johnson and Moncrief. Carter has to show he can make the transition from the Canadian Football League to the NFL. Lankford earned a lot of praise for his speed from the coaching staff and front office while on the practice squad last season.
Tight ends: Coby Fleener, Dwayne Allen, Jack Doyle, Erik Swoope
Can Allen finally stay healthy? That will be the question for him going into training camp. He’s missed 17 games the past two seasons. If healthy, the Colts could have one of the best tight end duos in the league with Allen and Fleener, who combined for 16 touchdown receptions last season.
Offensive linemen: David Arkin, Anthony Castonzo, Gosder Cherilus, Demarco Cox, Matt Hall, Jonotthan Harrison, Ben Heenan, Todd Herremans, Khaled Holmes, Tyler Hoover, Ulrick John, Lance Louis, Jack Mewhort, Joe Reitz, Donald Thomas, Hugh Thornton
Continuity is the key for the Colts on the offensive line. They used 11 different starting lineups up front last season. The key are of competition will be at one of the guard spots. Herremans, whom the Colts signed almost two weeks ago, is the front-runner to start there. Cherilus has to redeem himself at right tackle after injuries and poor play caused him to have a long 2014 season.
