The Detroit Lions picked up a new wide receiver, a familiar defensive tackle, and a safety with ties to the team’s front office on the first day of free agency.

And there are a lot of moves left to make. Where will the Lions turn now? Here are a few places to pay attention to on Day 2 of the league year:

1. Safety: This was one of the more active markets in the first few hours of free agency, with potential targets like George Iloka, Rodney McLeod and Tashaun Gipson coming off the board quickly. The Lions also lost safety Isa Abdul-Quddus to the Dolphins. This should be an area of focus the next couple days. Eric Weddle is still out there, and at age 31 could be a short-term option to pair with Glover Quin. Another player to watch is the Broncos' David Bruton. He’s coming off a broken leg, but is the type of player Jim Caldwell likes. He can play both down in the box and in coverage if necessary. He’s strong on special teams, too, and he’s a really good locker room guy. Some other names to pay attention to are Chris Conte and Walter Thurmond.

2. Center: Pay attention to Stefen Wisniewski here. The Lions have a center in Travis Swanson, but general manager Bob Quinn knows he needs to upgrade the offensive line. There will likely be competition for Wisniewski, but he’s the best center still available and someone Detroit could be interested in.

3. Offensive tackle: Kelvin Beachum is coming off a torn ACL, but he could end up being a Lions target. Beachum was very good for the Steelers before his injury, and the Lions might be able to get him at a cheaper price because of the injury. Beachum would be an upgrade, and would offer the Lions the flexibility to move Riley Reiff off left tackle if they want to.

4. Backup quarterback: It's not a great market out there, so don’t be surprised if Dan Orlovsky ends up back with the Lions for another season. Other potential backups are Josh Freeman, Josh Johnson, Scott Tolzien, Michael Vick, Charlie Whitehurst, Brandon Weeden, Jimmy Clausen and Matt Flynn. The Lions are still expected to draft a quarterback and have him compete for the No. 2 spot, but having a veteran at No. 2 makes sense.

5. More positions: The Lions will also likely poke around for help at linebacker, defensive end, cornerback and tight end. There is a lot of work to do. Detroit could also add another wide receiver, and Andre Holmes is a player to watch.
