Back in June, the Florida Panthers successfully defended their Stanley Cup as they bested the Edmonton Oilers for the second straight year. However, as October comes to a close, the Colorado Avalanche have taken over the top spot on the odds board, with the Carolina Hurricanes and Vegas Golden Knights right behind. The Avalanche are also at the top of the Presidents' Trophy odds.
The Winnipeg Jets are fifth in the odds to win the Western Conference, thanks to a strong start by reigning Hart Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck, the top-ranked player in ESPN Fantasy hockey. The Utah Mammoth, 8-2 in their past 10 games and holding steady at 35-1 to win the Stanley Cup, rise to No. 4 in the NHL Power Rankings. The Metropolitan Division-leading Pittsburgh Penguins remain at 40-1 to win the division, same as last week.
Elsewhere on the board, the Toronto Maple Leafs are 20-1 to snap their Cup drought (opened 16-1), the New York Rangers are 35-1 (opened 30-1), and the Boston Bruins sit at 250-1 after opening the regular season at 100-1.
