NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Harry Douglas knew his teammates were going to get their jokes in about his return but it didn't put a damper on his mood. The Tennessee Titans veteran receiver participated in practice Monday for the first time this season and could be designated off injured reserve and activated as early as this week.
Douglas, 33, has been the Titans' player-coach during the last ten weeks, but now he prepares to return to his on-field role.
"I'm feeling like a kid in the candy store," said Douglas, who was placed on injured reserve at the start of the season after feeling pain in his knee. "I really didn't sleep that much last night knowing that Monday was going to be my first day back."
The Titans have five healthy receivers on their active roster in an offense that doesn't use a ton of three-receiver sets. There does not appear to be an immediate on-field role for Douglas, but Mike Mularkey called Douglas "invaluable" earlier this offseason so he may try to find a spot for him on the active roster.
"He's got a lot of energy," Mularkey said. "He's a great leader. He's great in the locker room and receivers room. He's like a coach on the field. He's got a lot of experience. He does things the right way. He's a guy to follow."
The Titans have three weeks before needing to make a decision on whether Douglas remains on injured reserve for the rest of the season or if he's activated in place of another player currently on the 53-man roster.
Douglas had 15 catches for 210 yards in 11 games last season.
