Titans re-sign returner Eric Weems, place Harry Douglas on IR

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans didn't receive any waiver claims Sunday, but their 53-man roster wasn't quite set either.

Coach Mike Mularkey said he wanted Eric Weems back after cutting him Saturday. Seems re-signed with the Titans Sunday after they placed receiver Harry Douglas on injured reserve.

Douglas sat out more than a week of practices and games after suffering a knee injury. A big portion of his role on the team will be to lead this young receiver group, providing on-field teaching, an example to follow, and vocal motivation. He'll be able to do most of those things while on injured reserve.

Weems becomes the Titans' fifth receiver, but his main role will be as a reliable returner and core special-teams player. Rookie Adoree' Jackson is likely to be the Titans punt returner, but Weems could still be the kick returner and backup punt returner.

The move was delayed because NFL rules require players to make the initial 53-man roster before being put on injured reserve if the team hopes to designate them to return later in the year.

The Titans five receivers are Rishard Matthews, Corey Davis, Eric Decker, Taywan Taylor and Weems. They also are planning to have two receivers on the practice squad.
