RTC: Titans were in shotgun plenty before Marcus Mariota arrived

Reading the coverage of the Tennessee Titans...

It’s not as if Marcus Mariota will be giving up the shotgun cold turkey with the Titans, writes Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean. Tennessee used it almost 65 percent of the time last season, though some of that was because they were usually behind and throwing to try to catch up. "Mariota said his high school football team would go under center only when it entered the red zone because it was easier to run the football. At Oregon, where he won the Heisman Trophy, Mariota said he took 'probably 6 or 7' snaps under center a year ago."

"Because they went Nos. 1 and 2 in the draft, (Jameis) Winston and Mariota are hereby linked for the foreseeable future," writes David Climer of The Tennessean. "There is a natural compare/contrast between the two even though Mariota resists getting dragged into such a discussion."

Center Brian Schwenke is wearing braces on both knees in the hope that he has reduced his chances of getting hurt, writes John Glennon of The Tennessean.

The Titans added personnel they hope can help them run better, and they are working on some basics during OTAs to restart things, writes Teresa M. Walker of the AP.
