NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Before they restock the roster with a draft class, the Tennessee Titans are adding some depth, competition and insurance.

This week it was right tackle Byron Bell who got a one-year deal. He’ll have a shot to win the job, but will probably have to beat out a draft pick and will be in a competition to simply ensure he’s on the team.

Today, the one-year deal is for receiver Hakeem Nicks.

Like Bell, Nicks qualifies as somewhat of a a reclamation project.

The Titans are still thin at receiver.

They hope Nicks will upgrade the core and bring enhanced competition at a position where the Titans lacked sufficient depth and dynamism last season.

They also have two street free agents they added early in the offseason in Jacoby Ford and Clyde Gates, and two low-ranking holdovers in Rico Richardson and Josh Stewart.
