TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers capped off an extended weekend following Thursday night's game with a Monday morning practice, and there was no sign of running back Doug Martin.

"No information for you guys," coach Dirk Koetter said after practice. "I’m sorry, but we’ll put out an injury report on Wednesday like we’re required to."

In an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio on Friday, Koetter told hosts Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt that Martin might return this week against Chicago.

"We’re hopeful that after these three days off that maybe he has a shot at Chicago," Koetter said via the Sporting News. "But hamstrings seem to linger a little bit. We’ll have to wait and see."

Martin suffered the injury in Week 2 against Arizona. He attempted a workout the day before the Bucs left to play Carolina and suffered a setback.

"These hamstrings are just delicate," Koetter said. "He was 90-plus percent back and doing his rehab run one day and he tweaked it again. [Bucs trainers] kind of had to go back and start over."

When Koetter was asked after practice why he was hopeful Martin could play this week, he responded, "I get my information from our medical staff. That’s all I can go by."

Koetter said previously that he tends to err on the side of caution during extra practices, which is what Monday was. The team has three other practices this week, which Martin could still participate in. Antone Smith, who suffered a knee injury Thursday and had to be carted off the field, is not expected back for the rest of the season and Jacquizz Rodgers is still nursing a sprained foot.

Also missing from practice was Louis Murphy. Monday is the end of his 21-day practice period since coming off the PUP list. The team has three options now: they can activate him to the 53-man roster, put him on IR or release him. Like Martin, Murphy suffered a setback, but it wasn't to his injured knee. Koetter did not disclose the specifics of that injury. Murphy tore his ACL in Week 7 last season.
