PHILADELPHIA – Eagles running back DeMarco Murray participated in the team’s practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.
Murray left Wednesday’s practice with a “tweak” of his hamstring, Eagles coach Chip Kelly said Thursday. Murray did not participate in Thursday’s practice.
Kelly said the plan was to hold Murray out Thursday and then evaluate him after Friday and Saturday’s practices.
The Eagles do not practice at full speed on Fridays or Saturdays. The sessions are basically walkthroughs, so Murray’s hamstring would not have been tested.
If Murray can not play Sunday, Ryan Mathews would replace him in the Eagles’ offense. Darren Sproles would also get more action.
The Eagles are thin at defensive end. Cedric Thornton will not play Sunday after breaking a bone in his hand in the Dallas game. Taylor Hart, who injured his shoulder against the Cowboys, did not practice all week. He was listed as out on the Friday injury report.
Vinny Curry would likely start at defensive end in Thornton’s place. Brandon Bair, who was inactive for the first two games, is likely to be active Sunday and spell Curry and Fletcher Cox. Cox was listed as probably with a groin injury.
The Eagles expect to be without inside linebacker Kiko Alonso, who sprained his knee against Dallas. They could also be missing starting inside linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who did not practice because of a hamstring injury.
DeMeco Ryans and rookie Jordan Hicks would likely start at inside linebacker against the Jets. Brad Jones and Najee Goode would be the reserves.
Safety Chris Maragos (hip), wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu (concussion, elbow) and tight end Trey Burton (shoulder) were all listed as probable for the Jets game. All three are key special-teams players.
