DB E.J. Biggers, WR Seyi Ajirotutu sign with Eagles

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Eagles signed two players, a wide receiver and a defensive back, to one-year contracts Tuesday.

Wide receiver Seyi Ajirotutu, 27, was the San Diego Chargers' special teams player of the year for 2014. The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Ajirotutu has played in 57 games for San Diego and Carolina over the past five years. He has caught a total of 24 passes for 420 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensive back E.J. Biggers spent the past two seasons with Washington. He has played safety and cornerback during his career, which began with three years in Tampa Bay. The 6-foot, 185-pound Biggers projects more as a cornerback, although the Eagles’ plans for him are not clear.

Both signings give the Eagles depth at two positions where they lost players through free agency. With Jeremy Maclin and likely Brad Smith gone, the Eagles were thin at wide receiver. At defensive back, the Eagles let three of their four starters leave via free agency: cornerbacks Cary Williams and Bradley Fletcher and safety Nate Allen.

They signed cornerbacks Byron Maxwell and Walter Thurmond earlier in free agency. They still have a need for a starting safety. Biggers played safety for Washington in 2013, but was moved back to cornerback for the 2014 season.

The Eagles might look for safety and wide receiver help in the draft this month. But adding some depth at those positions helps take the pressure off on draft day.
