We're looking at some of the top individual performances in the Pac-12 in 2013.
Up next: Irish are Gash-ney'd.
Who and against whom: Stanford running back Tyler Gaffney had a career day in Stanford's 27-20 victory over Notre Dame on Nov. 30.
The numbers: In his final game at Stanford Stadium, Gaffney carried 33 times for a career-high 189 yards and a touchdown. The performance is tied for the most yards by a Stanford running back in the last four seasons.
A closer look: Build a lead, run out the clock, win. It's a simple formula that Stanford has worked on for several years and was executed to near perfection against Notre Dame on Nov. 30. There were games when Gaffney had more touchdowns (six, actually) and games where he was given more carries (35), but in no other game during his final season was Gaffney more effective for as long as he was against the Fighting Irish. Of his 33 carries, 19 came in the second half, including an 18-yard carry on his final run of the night. That last run allowed Stanford, holding a seven-point lead, to take a knee and finish off the win. It was a fitting final home game for Gaffney, who returned to the Farm after a year away from football while concentrating on a professional baseball career.
