Scout's Take: QB Tanner McKee to Stanford

play
No. 5 pocket passer McKee commits to Stanford (1:41)

Tanner McKee, who is stepping away from football to pursue a two-year mission for his church, decides to sign with Stanford. (1:41)

Stanford has gained its second ESPN 300 quarterback for 2018 with the signing of Tanner McKee. Below, see why McKee, who is expected to complete an LDS Mission before playing for the Cardinal, is such a perfect fit David Shaw's offense:

What he brings: The No. 76 player overall in the ESPN 300 has a huge frame with the arm strength to make all the throws. Sees the field extremely well, is poised and can strike into small windows with a quick release. McKee has big developmental upside and a lot of physical tools to work with.

How he fits: Stanford is the ideal fit for McKee. He should flourish in a pro-style scheme and will get extended time to build up his frame and more experience. He joins Jack West, the No. 100 overall player in the ESPN 300, as quarterbacks in this Stanford class.

Who he reminds us of: (Clayton Thorson, Northwestern) McKee’s developmental upside and poise, composure in the pocket remind us of young Thorson at this same stage.
