Scout's Take: WR Amon-Ra St. Brown to USC

ESPN 300 wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, California's No. 4-rated prospect, is now on board with USC. Read below to see why this top-50 talent was such a needed addition for the Trojans:

What he brings: Possesses a nice first step. Attacks leverage, sets up defenders and is explosive at the top of his routes. Fluid through the hips and changes speed with ease. Natural hands with a nice catching radius and good body control. Not afraid to mix it up as a blocker in the run game. Is not a burner, but can separate. If this guy had great speed he might be the most highly-recruited guy in the class at wide receiver.

How he fits: This is a need position for USC. When we say "need," we mean they need playmakers to step up. USC did not have a great group of receivers this year aside from Deontay Burnett. St. Brown will bring a competitive temperament to the USC receiving corps.

Reminds us of: Christian Kirk, Texas A&M -- the only difference is speed. Both are built like running backs, but move like wide receivers with great ball skills.

How the class is shaping up: USC continues to stockpile talent under Clay Helton's watch. Signing ESPN 300 linebackers Palaie Gaoteote and Raymond Scott were key wins on the trail, as was No. 2-ranked center Justin Dedich and ESPN 300 running back and one-time Notre Dame verbal Markese Stepp. The fax from ESPN JC50 Caleb Tremblay means the Trojans have an impact defensive tackle on the way. Winning out for the signatures of Chase Williams and defensive end Abdul-Malik McClain means beating Nebraska and archrival UCLA for two top area prospects. Continuing to work for February signatures from commits Tuli Letuligasenoa, Marcus Johnson and Missouri defensive tackle Trevor Trout will be key in pushing for a top-10 class.
