Around the NFC South

Let’s take a run through the headlines from around the division:

TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

Running back Doug Martin was shaken up and left Friday night’s preseason game. But Martin said he passed concussion tests and could have returned to the game.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Mike Triplett writes that things should be kept in perspective about Friday night’s preseason win. It was only an exhibition game and it came against an Oakland team that didn’t look very good. Still, the Saints looked extremely impressive while the starters were in.

CAROLINA PANTHERS

Joseph Person writes that David Gettis has put himself in the mix for the third receiver spot. Gettis has become one of the pleasant stories of the preseason. His career appeared to be nearing an end after missing most of the last two seasons with injuries. But Gettis has put himself back into serious contention for a roster spot by leading the Panthers in receiving in each of their first two preseason games.

ATLANTA FALCONS

Roddy White’s ankle sprain is minor, the team said. Still, I wouldn’t expect to see too much more of White in the preseason. He’s a veteran who knows the offense well and the most important thing is to have him at full strength for the regular-season opener.
