Aaron Rodgers to critics: 'Shhhhhhhhh'

Kudos to Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who once again found motivation this week in relatively mild criticism of both his and the team's play over the first five games of the season. After throwing six touchdown passes in Sunday night's 42-24 victory over the Houston Texans, Rodgers gave a lively postgame interview to NBC's Michele Tafoya.

Asked what message he sent the "critics" with his (and the team's) performance, Rodgers said: "Shhhhhhhhh," and walked off camera with a smile.

Earlier, Rodgers implied the intensity of the criticism the Packers faced this week -- which to me wasn't too tough on the relative scale of such things -- was nevertheless out of whack.

"I think we were all just tired of answering questions about what happened to the Packers, what happened to me," Rodgers said. "It was a good team effort tonight. The offensive line blocked great. We ran the ball with effectiveness. Guys made some plays down the field. Just getting back to the way we are capable of playing. We haven't gone anywhere."

As we discussed last week, Rodgers acknowledged he had not matched the expectations and standards he set during last season's MVP campaign. Some analysts, including ESPN's Ron Jaworski, suggested Rodgers had looked uncomfortable and fundamentally unsound in the pocket since taking eight sacks in the first half of a Week 3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. We'll examine his performance, and this game, more thoroughly on Monday. Good night, Week 6.
