Jets WR Brandon Marshall a bargain at $79,500 per reception

Brandon Marshall was quite a bargain last season for the New York Jets.

As you know, Marshall shattered the franchise record for most receptions, racking up 109. Based on his contract, which averages $8.7 million per year (12th among wide receivers), it breaks down to $79,500 per catch. That might sound like a lot of cash, but it's actually one of the lowest rates in the NFL.

The league average for wide receivers was $154,000 per reception, with 35 receivers making more than $200,000 per catch last season, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Among the 25 receivers with a contract that averages at least $5 million per year, the top bargain was Antonio Brown.

Brown (136 receptions) averaged $61,700 per catch, followed by Golden Tate (90) at $68,900, Amari Cooper (72) at $78,700 and Marshall.

Who were the biggest non-bargains? The Colts' T.Y. Hilton made $188,000 per catch and Vincent Jackson pulled in $337,000 per grab. The most obscene number came from the Dwayne Bowe, who was paid $1.25 million for each of his five catches.

Which explains why he's currently unemployed.
