Andre Brown bound for short-term IR

The New York Giants have decided to place injured running back Andre Brown on the Injured Reserve/Designated for Return list Tuesday, a league source confirmed. That means Brown has to miss at least six weeks of practice and at least eight weeks of games. Since the Giants have a bye in Week 9, that means the earliest you'll see Brown in a game is Week 10 against the Raiders.

Brown, who fractured his left leg Thursday in the Giants' preseason game in New England, sort of broke the news himself on Twitter, writing "See y'all week 8" in a tweet early Tuesday afternoon. The source confirmed that Brown's tweet did indeed mean that he had been told he would be placed on the short-term IR list.

Brown's absence leaves the Giants with just three halfbacks on their roster -- David Wilson, Da'Rel Scott and rookie Michael Cox. But Tuesday's move clears a spot on the 53-man roster in case they want to add another player at that or any other position.
