Miami Dolphins fantasy football advice for Week 2

Jarvis Landry is a solid fantasy option in Week 2 for the Dolphins at Jacksonville. Brad Mills/USA TODAY Sports

Miami Dolphins improved to 1-0 with a 17-10 win against the Washington Redskins. But there were several Dolphins players who impacted fantasy football leagues around the country.

As we look ahead to Week 2 when the Dolphins play at Jacksonville, here are some early fantasy thoughts from Miami's perspective:

  • If you have Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry, keep playing him. Landry led Miami receivers in targets by a wide margin last week with 12 and continues to be a bonus threat on special teams. The Dolphins released kicker returner and punt returner LaMike James on Monday, which means Landry is a top option to handle both duties. His 69-yard punt return for a touchdown was a nice points boon for Landry's fantasy owners.

  • Fantasy owners should stay away from Miami running back Lamar Miller. This doesn't have as much to do with Miller as it does Miami's offensive play calling. The Dolphins, as a team, ran the ball just four times in the first half last week. In addition, Miller finished with just 13 carries, which is right on par with his 2014 average of 13.5 carries per game. The Dolphins didn't give Miller the ball enough last season, and there were early signs in Week 1 that may continue. Therefore, Miller is too risky of a play for now.

  • I asked Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin this week why wide receiver and first-round pick DeVante Parker played just one snap Sunday. Philbin said the decision was game specific and the flow of the game led to Parker being a non-factor. Philbin added that Parker, who is coming off summer foot surgery will play more this week. Parker is a dynamic talent who should produce in the long term. But fantasy players should keep Parker on the bench early in the season.

  • There were questions about Cameron's production heading into Week 1 because I didn't see much from him in the preseason. Cameron had just one catch for 6 yards in three preseason games. But Cameron had a solid outing against Washington with four catches for 73 yards. I think Cameron's role will increase with backup tight end Dion Sims (concussion) likely to miss time.

Good luck to everyone in your fantasy football leagues this week.
