JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Here's some unsurprising news: The Jacksonville Jaguars didn't have a player named to the Pro Bowl.
Here's some more: It's really hard to make an argument that anyone got snubbed.
The Jaguars are 2-12 and there are few players performing at a high level. Certainly not on offense, which has scored more than 21 points just once during the last 10 games. There are several defensive players that have played well this season but playing on a team that has lost nine consecutive games and has appeared on national television just once this season doesn't earn them a lot of votes.
Defensive tackle Malik Jackson is having a good year (30 tackles, team-high 14 quarterback hits, eight tackles for loss) and so are linebackers Telvin Smith (104 tackles, team-high 14 tackles for loss, six pass breakups) and Paul Posluszny (team-high 118 tackles, seven tackles for loss). Even though the Jaguars' defense ranks seventh in total defense (321.4 yards per game) and fourth in passing defense (210.4 yards per game), it's not a big-play defense.
The Jaguars have forced a league-low 10 turnovers and have just five interceptions. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey's first-half interception against Houston last Sunday was the Jaguars' first interception since Week 4. It also was the first interception by a Jaguars cornerback this season.
Ramsey is a candidate for defensive rookie of the year but it's hard for a rookie cornerback to make the Pro Bowl. He has played well -- 57 tackles, team-high nine pass breakups, and a forced fumble -- but it's hard to make the Pro Bowl at that position. If he continues to develop he'll have a chance in 2017.
