In this series, I'm counting down the 10 most significant plays that shaped the Jacksonville Jaguars' 2015 season.
Play No. 10: TE Clay Harbor’s flop
Situation: Second-and-11 from the Miami 40-yard line with 1:06 remaining.
Score: The game was tied 20-20.
What happened: T.J. Yeldon carried the ball for a 6-yard gain, and Harbor was blocking Miami DE Olivier Vernon on the play. Harbor gave Vernon a little shove at the whistle, and Vernon whirled around and shoved Harbor, who (admittedly) threw himself to the ground. Vernon was penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving the Jaguars the ball on the Miami 19. Four plays later, Jason Myers kicked a 28-yard game-winning field goal with 43 seconds to play.
Impact: Harbor’s acting job was the most significant contribution by a tight end through the first two games (no receptions), and it gave Myers, who made a 58-yard field goal at the end of the first half, a chip-shot game winner. It put the Jaguars at .500 for the first time since Week 2 of the 2011 season, and it gave them a much-needed victory heading into what was expected to be a brutal stretch of back-to-back road games at New England and Indianapolis.
Quote from Harbor: “The opportunity presented itself to maybe get some extra yards for us, get us in better field-goal range. Who am I not to take it? … Definitely did a little flop there and acted my way to 15 extra yards. If it helps us win, I’ll do it.”
