A quick observation of quarterback Andrew Luck and how he has played in preparation for the season opener on Sept. 13 against the Buffalo Bills.
Is there any doubt that Luck gets a thumb-up for his work so far? We're talking about a quarterback who will be in the running for the NFL MVP this season.
The Colts could have played their first regular-season game instead of having their first training camp practice on Aug. 2, and Luck would have been ready to play.
He used the offseason workouts and minicamp to develop a relationship with new receivers Andre Johnson, Phillip Dorsett and Duron Carter. He even worked out with them after the team broke minicamp in June.
In typical Luck fashion, instead of being pleased with the way he distributed the ball around to seven different receivers in the first half against St. Louis last weekend, he was hard on himself when he fumbled handing the ball off to rookie Josh Robinson on their first play of the second half.
That’s Luck. Don’t worry about the positive, focus on improving the negative.
“I’m disappointed in myself with that fumble I started the second half off with,” he said. “That’s a bad play to start a half with and a bad play to end with in that game as a quarterback. That’s bad, but we did some good things, and obviously, we’re not perfect.”
Luck finished the preseason -- he won’t play in the finale against Cincinnati -- going 22-of-36 for 275 yards and a touchdown. What was even more impressive is that the quarterback was sacked only one time in his three appearances.
