INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson's decision not to hit the panic button during the legal tampering period could pay off for him.
Running back Frank Gore, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, has gotten cold feet over his decision to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Enter Grigson and his sales pitch to Gore to come to Indianapolis.
Gore and the Indianapolis Colts would be a perfect fit for each other. Yes, Gore will be 32 years old in May, but he's still a productive running back. He has had eight 1,000-yard seasons in his 10 years in the NFL. And remember, Gore won't be counted on to carry the ball 20 times a game -- he averaged 15.9 carries a game last season -- because quarterback Andrew Luck is the focal point of the offense. Gore would be a complementary piece to the rest of the offense that features Luck, receiver T.Y. Hilton and tight ends Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen.
The Colts are in need of a starting running back after the Trent Richardson experiment the past two seasons was a failure.
Landing Gore also would mean the Colts could select a running back in next month's draft and not force him to carry the load in the backfield. The Colts like the depth at running back in this year's draft class.
