HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans will know more about quarterback Brian Hoyer's status after Tuesday, said coach Bill O'Brien. O'Brien said that Hoyer will meet with an independent neurologist on Tuesday as part of the NFL's concussion protocol.

Hoyer has said in the past that he wants to do things the right way when it comes to handling his concussions. He said in November he suffered concussions in high school, college and during his rookie year. He's read about the impact of brain injuries.

He suffered two within the span of less than a month -- on on Nov. 16 of this year against the Cincinnati Bengals and one on Dec. 13 against the New England Patriots. Repeated concussions increase the likelihood that more concussions will occur.

As the Texans wait on Hoyer's fate, they've brought in an insurance policy. T.J. Yates will go on injured reserve with a torn ACL and the Texans have added B.J. Daniels to their roster. That gives them three quarterbacks on the active roster -- Hoyer, Brandon Weeden and Daniels.

Daniels was converted to a receiver in Seattle, where he was on the active roster for 10 games this season. He played in six games and caught two passes for 18 yards in them.

If Hoyer can't play, the Texans would start Weeden with Daniels as his backup.

This is the second straight year the Texans have played at least four different quarterbacks. If Weeden starts, he will be the fourth player to start at quarterback for the Texans. Houston has had five players throw touchdown passes this season -- that's the most any team has had since the Chiefs in 2008.
