GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Mike McCarthy doesn’t usually like his players to say anything outrageous or make any promises, but he was all for his quarterback’s comment on Wednesday that the Green Bay Packers can “run the table.”

That remark surely prompted some 'yeah, right" responses, given that the Packers are on a four-game losing streak and stand at 4-6 heading into Monday night’s game at Philadelphia.

“I love it,” McCarthy said Friday. “It’s an expression of confidence. That’s a statement that he made. I read about it just like everybody else. I think it just shows what’s going on internally, but the fact of the matter is we have to win the next game. We all get that part.

"But this is a big challenge going to Philadelphia. It’s a very good football team. We talked about the specifics of how we look at them on offense, defense and special teams, the environment we’re going to play in. That’s my immediate focus. But I love those comments because it’s an expression of confidence, and that’s what we have.”

Aaron Rodgers’ comment was an extension of his postgame news conference after Sunday’s loss at Washington. After that game, he said he was “very optimistic” the Packers can still turn their season around.

Three days later, he was asked why he felt that way. That’s when he gave his run-the-table answer.

"I feel like we can run the table, I really do," Rodgers said. "The offense is starting to click a little bit more; we've just got to put together a game where we're more consistent from the first snap to the last. We've been, I think, getting closer to that. We've really been clicking, at times, in the last few games.

"But it's going to be important that we get going early. We had three three-and-outs to start the [Redskins] game, but overall on the season, we've done a better job of limiting our three-and-outs; we've been sustaining drives pretty well."

Even if the Packers end their losing streak on Monday, they will remain two games out of first place in the NFC North with just five weeks remaining. The Detroit Lions (7-4) moved into sole possession of the division lead after Thursday’s win over the Vikings (6-5). The Packers close the regular season with Minnesota at home in Week 16 and at Detroit in the Week 17 finale.
