GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers had yet to get tight end Jared Cook as involved in the offense as they had hoped, and now it’s uncertain when they will be able to accomplish that.
Their biggest free-agent signing of the offseason went down with a right ankle injury on Sunday against the Detroit Lions and could not finish the game.
Cook needed crutches and a boot to leave the Packers' locker room after the game and did not speak with reporters.
"Don't have all the information," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "Just briefly talked to [team physician Dr.] Pat McKenzie. There will be more tests that need to be done."
Cook limped off the field early in the second half and was taken to the locker room. He had one catch for 15 yards on Sunday before his injury. Including Sunday, Cook has six catches for 53 yards without a touchdown in his first season with the Packers. His 15-yarder against the Lions was his longest catch of the season.
The Packers gave Cook a one-year, $2.75 million contract this offseason after the Rams released him.
He underwent foot surgery in June but never said which foot was injured this offseason.
The Packers also lost fullback Aaron Ripkowski (back) in the first half, leaving them with only two available running backs -- Eddie Lacy and James Starks.
The Packers already were without five key contributors: cornerback Sam Shields (concussion), outside linebacker Clay Matthews (ankle, hamstring), safety Morgan Burnett (groin), defensive tackle Letroy Guion (knee) and defensive end/outside linebacker Datone Jones (knee).
