MINNEAPOLIS – Jordy Nelson went 21 months between touchdown catches. This time, he waited just a week.

Seven days after Nelson caught a 6-yard touchdown pass in his return after missing all of the 2015 season because of a torn ACL in his right knee, the Pro Bowl receiver caught another one Sunday night – a 1-yarder in the first quarter that will go down as the first touchdown at Minnesota’s new U.S. Bank Stadium.

Neither scoring catch was the deep ball that made Nelson so successful; in 2014, seven of Nelson’s 13 touchdowns came on throws of 20 or more yards down the field, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

But if there were any doubt that Aaron Rodgers would do whatever necessary to get Nelson involved immediately, that was answered.

In last week’s season opener at Jacksonville, Rodgers targeted Nelson a team-high nine times. Although Nelson caught six passes, matching Randall Cobb for the team lead, he totaled just 32 yards.

Before the touchdown at Jacksonville, Nelson’s last one had come on Dec. 21, 2014, at Tampa Bay. Nelson finished that season -- the best of his career -- with 98 catches for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Rodgers’ touchdown to Nelson on Sunday night was his 18th in his last seven road games at Minnesota, with no interceptions to that point. The Packers trail 10-7 at halftime.
