Tom Clements to call plays for Packers from sideline, depth-chart notes

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Tom Clements is moving back to the sideline now that he's the Green Bay Packers' offensive play caller.

When Clements was handed those duties from the Packers coach Mike McCarthy this offseason, the veteran coach suggested that he would probably move from the coaches box, where he oversaw things last season as the offensive coordinator.

"We're still talking about that but because we like to play fast it's probably better to be on the field," Clements said at the time. "You have one less level of communication."

When the Packers on Sunday released their first depth chart of the season -- it was labeled "unofficial" -- it also included the coaches game-day assignments for this season, which can been seen here. Both Clements, who was promoted to associate head coach/offense, and new offensive coordinator Edgar Bennett will be on the sideline with McCarthy.

Just like he has done since he became defensive coordinator in 2009, Dom Capers will work from the coaches' box on game days. The other six coaches in the box will be: Luke Getsy (offensive quality control), Scott McCurley (assistant linebackers), David Raih (coaching administrator), Josh Rushing (defensive quality control), Alex Van Pelt (quarterbacks/receivers) and Joe Whitt (cornerbacks).

The Packers also had seven coaches in the box last season, but it's a change for Van Pelt, who last season coached only quarterbacks and worked from the sideline.
