McShay changes thinking on Packers' pick

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The loss of cornerbacks Tramon Williams and Davon House in free agency must have changed Todd McShay's thinking when it comes to the Green Bay Packers and the first round of next month's NFL draft.

It makes sense that in his latest mock draftInsider released on Monday, McShay switched his pick for the Packers at No. 30 to Marcus Peters, the highly talented cornerback who was kicked off the University of Washington team last fall.

The Packers might not necessarily be looking for an immediate starter to replace Williams, who signed with the Cleveland Browns. They believe Casey Hayward can make the transition from playing mostly in the slot during his first three years to the outside position Williams played. They also have Micah Hyde, who split his time between safety and the nickel cornerback spot last season.

But Peters, if the Packers truly believe his problems at Washington were an aberration, could be a steal if he's available at No. 30. McShay called him "the best corner in this class."

Previously, McShay had the Packers taking Oklahoma defensive tackle Jordan Phillips in his last mock draft. In this edition, McShay does not have Phillips going in the first round.

Also, defensive line might not be as a big of a need as it once appeared. The Packers agreed to terms on Monday with defensive tackle Letroy Guion and have been in talks to bring back B.J. Raji as well.
