Aaron Rodgers' calf better than a week ago

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers said his strained left calf felt "a little bit worse" after Sunday’s playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys, but it was a whole lot better on Monday than it was the day after the Green Bay Packers quarterback re-injured it in the regular-season finale two weeks ago.

And with just six more days until Sunday's NFC Championship Game at the Seattle Seahawks, that's an encouraging sign for the Packers given that he had two weeks between the Week 17 game against the Detroit Lions and the playoff opener against the Cowboys.

"Aaron made it through the game very well," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Monday. "Saw him today. He's getting better. I think he feels better at this time this week than he did last week."

Rodgers practiced only once in the two weeks that led up the 26-21 win over the Cowboys. McCarthy said he and the medical staff have not discussed a plan for Rodgers this week. First, Rodgers will spend another day going through treatment and then will see team physician Dr. Pat McKenzie on Wednesday.

"At that time, the plan will be set for Wednesday," McCarthy said. "That's how we always do it."

Among other things, Rodgers showed he can perform at his usual level without much practice. He completed 24-of-35 passes for 316 yards with three touchdowns against the Cowboys. It included one of the best touchdowns he's ever thrown -- the 13-yard rocket to tight end Richard Rodgers in the fourth quarter that he fired through the smallest of openings.

"It was a helluva throw and a great catch," offensive coordinator Tom Clements said Monday.
