Here are some highs and lows in terms of individual performances from the Detroit Lions' win over the Jacksonville Jaguars:
HIGHS
Phillip Hunt: The former CFL sack artist has come on fairly well in the past couple of weeks and received a lot of first-team work against the Jaguars. He made the most of it as well, pressuring Blake Bortles multiple times, beating former first round pick Luke Joeckel, while picking up two tackles.
Matthew Stafford: The quarterback did what he had to in his tune-up game, completing 11 of 15 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns. He affirmed a lot of what he has done during training camp practices with a strong command of the offense and increased accuracy. It’ll be interesting to see if it carries to the regular season.
Zach Zenner: The rookie is still trying to make the roster and had another strong performance Friday, rushing eight times for 85 yards -- including a 41-yard run where he ran perfectly off tackle and then along the sideline. It’s the second week in a row he had a massive gain. He also had a fourth-quarter touchdown.
LOWS
Ryan Broyles: It doesn’t look good for the former second round pick. He received no work with the starters in the first half while Lance Moore and Greg Salas did. Considering he is in a contract year and the Lions might try to either go younger or more proven on Sundays with depth receiver spots, he has a tough path to a roster spot.
Kellen Moore: He has not had a strong camp and was once again the third quarterback in Friday. The chances of him overtaking Dan Orlovsky for the No. 2 quarterback job look pretty slim and, depending what happens with injuries and talent at other spots, he might not be assured a roster spot. The Lions would likely want to keep three quarterbacks, but it could be a nervous week for Moore.
Penalties: This isn’t a person, but an overall concern for the Lions. They had 13 penalties which were spread out all over the place. The worst one probably belonged to James Ihedigbo, who was called for a personal foul for making contact with Bortles after he started a slide in the first half. But it was sloppy play for Detroit -- again with the obvious caveat that it is the preseason and that’s kind of what happens.
