IRVING, Texas -- Back in 2007, the Dallas Cowboys signed Matt Moore as an undrafted free agent and tried to sneak him through waivers at the end of training camp to put him on the practice squad. The Carolina Panthers thwarted their chances then, but nine years later Moore is once again a Cowboys option.

Moore will visit the Cowboys on Thursday, a source confirmed, after spending the past five seasons with the Miami Dolphins. In nine seasons with the Panthers and Dolphins, Moore has completed 453 of 769 passes for 5,356 yards with 33 touchdown passes and 28 interceptions. He has a 13-12 record as a starter but has thrown just 30 passes in the past four seasons.

He turns 32 in August.

The Cowboys have seen Colt McCoy, Chase Daniel and Drew Stanton go off the backup-quarterback market in the past few days. They have Kellen Moore, who started the final two games of 2015, currently penciled in as Tony Romo’s backup and could look to add a quarterback in next month’s draft.

Adding Matt Moore would not preclude the Cowboys from taking a quarterback with the fourth overall pick, but it would give them more experience beyond Kellen Moore behind Romo.

On Tuesday, Romo had surgery on his left collarbone and will need six to eight weeks to recover. Romo is expected to take part in the organized team activities in May and June.
