The Browns drafted 14 players in the spring, and all of them made the roster coming out of training camp. Though some have played OK at times and a couple have shown potential, none have had a sit-up-and-take-notice kind of season. The Browns have to hope this group gets better, or the 2016 draft might be one more disappointment.
Grade: D-plus.
Best rookie: It would be nice to give this to first-round pick Corey Coleman, but he's been hurt, and when he's played he's been inconsistent. Emmanuel Ogbah, though, has settled in and improved steadily since he started playing solely on the defensive line. Pro Football Focus reports that Ogbah's 13 pressures the past three games are fourth in the NFL and tied with Khalil Mack.
Most improved rookie: Ogbah gets this award as well. Early in the season he struggled at linebacker. Now that he's playing one position consistently, he's noticeable.
Most disappointing rookie: It's probably grossly unfair to call him disappointing; he gives everything he has. But expectations for a third-round pick are higher than Cody Kessler produced. Forced on the field early in his career, Kessler showed some positives. But as the season wore on, defenses obviously had a book on him, and his production dropped. There is room -- and time -- for Kessler to grow.
The jury is still out on ... Coleman: Though Coleman has had his moments, his production does not match the expectations for a first-round pick. Coleman needs to stay healthy and be much more consistent as his career continues. Coleman even said Monday that he feels like he has let a lot of people down.
Undrafted rookie check-in: Cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun has been the best of this group, as he's filled in capably for Jamar Taylor and Joe Haden. PFF grades him as the second-best corner in the league the last three games, with an interception and four passes defensed. He leads all rookies in combined interceptions and passes defensed.
