Browns coach Mike Pettine has no new news on Johnny Manziel

As the final week of the 2015 pre-season descended upon the Cleveland Browns' practice facility in Berea, Ohio, it was another day in which Johnny Manziel did not practice. With Manziel already having been ruled out for Thursday’s game by Browns coach Mike Pettine, the big question is when the second-year quarterback will be able to throw a football again.

When asked if he had an update on Manziel at his Monday press conference, Pettine said:

“No. I don’t know when he [Manziel] will throw again, but he is doing his rehab exercises. He is on the training room protocol with it. There is not any real update with Johnny.”

With starter Josh McCown getting the final preseason game off, third-string quarterback Thaddeus Lewis will get the start Thursday against the Chicago Bears, with newcomer Pat Devlin set to see some action as well.

Other news and notes:

In addition to the Manziel injury watch the Terrelle Pryor injury watch is also an ongoing story with the Browns. Unlike Manziel, Pryor did participate in the Browns' walk-through and gameplan installation today.

Pettine had this to say when asked for an update on Pryor:

“We will know a little bit more tomorrow because tomorrow will be full-speed tempo in pads,” Pettine said. “Today was a just a jog-through. He looked good out there today. I think tomorrow will truly tell. If he does go against Chicago, he will be limited as far as the number of plays he is going to play. We are not just going to put him out there and say, ‘Play the whole game.’ We will have a clear plan for him on Thursday and we are hopeful that he can go.”
