Breaking down Sam Bradford's contract

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals got their quarterback for 2018 last week. And they paid for him.

Sam Bradford signed a two-year contract worth up to $20 million per season with 2019 an option season, according to ESPN Stats & Information. He’ll receive a $10 million signing bonus, and his contract was structured to not be a burden on the Cardinals' salary cap in 2018.

It was also reported that Bradford has a no-trade clause in his contract.

2018: Bradford will earn a $5 million base salary -- fully guaranteed -- in addition to his $10 million signing bonus, bringing his total guaranteed money to $15 million. He'll be eligible for a roster bonus of $312,500 per game with a maximum of $5 million if he's active for all 16 games. Bradford will also be eligible for another $1 million in not-likely-to-be-earned bonuses if he wins the Super Bowl.

Cap hit: $10.625 million

2019: This will be an option season for Bradford. If the Cardinals decide to pick up the option, they'll have to do it by the final day of the 2018 league year. Should Bradford's option be picked up, his base salary increases to $7.5 million in 2019. That amount and $10 million of his $12.5 million roster bonus will be fully guaranteed if he's on the roster the third day of the 2019 league year. He'll also be eligible for a roster bonus of $312,500 per game up to a maximum of $5 million.
