GLENDALE, Ariz. -- It may be the preseason but the Cardinals' first depth chart of 2015 brought up a few questions that will be answered over the course of the next month.
Before heads start to spin, however, remember this: the depth chart was devised by the team's media relations department.
After going through the rest of the depth chart, a few things caught my attention:
It looks like Ted Larsen's days at center are over. He was not listed on the depth chart at center, instead filling the backup left guard slot.
Logan Thomas was listed as the third-string quarterback while Phillip Sims was fourth.
Troy Niklas' hamstring injury has knocked him down on the depth chart. He was listed behind starter Darren Fells at one tight end position while Ifeanyi Momah was the starter at the second. Jermaine Gresham was listed as Momah's backup.
After moving from outside linebacker to defensive tackle, Matt Shaughnessy was listed behind Frostee Rucker and Ed Stinson.
Even though he played in 99.4 percent of defensive snaps last year, Rashad Johnson was listed behind Tyrann Mathieu. Tony Jefferson was the listed as the starting strong safety.
He's drawn high praise from coach Bruce Arians as a receiver but Brittan Golden was listed as the first-team kick and punt returner.
In some situations, especially on defense, who's listed first or second doesn't matter because players start in different packages. For example, rookie linebacker Markus Golden has been playing with the first team in dime packages. Arizona has also been playing five or more defensive backs quite often during practice, putting Tyrann Mathieu, Rashad Johnson and Tony Jefferson on the field together at the same time.
Here's the depth chart from the Cardinals' game release:
