Twitter announced today it has partnered with ELeague to livestream the semifinals and finals of TBS's inaugural Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament this Friday and Saturday. This is the first esports event to be streamed live on Twitter.

In a media release to the blog GamesBeat, Christina Alejandre, vice president of esports at Turner Sports and general manager of Eleague, said the move provides fans with "an additional opportunity to consume ELeague content."

ELeague is currently broadcasted on two platforms: Twitch.tv and TBS. Tuesday through Thursday saw the webcast entirely on Twitch; Friday saw the televised portion hitting the airwaves in conjunction with a pared-down livestream. Now ELeague adds a third option with Twitter, a platform on which gamers are "one of the largest and most engaged audiences," according to Anthony Noto, Twitter's chief financial officer.

ELeague also announced the $300,000 Overwatch open tournament last week, which they will broadcast in partnership with tournament organizer FACEIT.
