After losing to Natus Vincere in the ELeague quarterfinals last week, North American Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team Cloud9 is planning to remove in-game leader Alec "Slemmy" White from the starting lineup as it tries out new fifth players, sources close to the team tell ESPN.
Over the past few days, Cloud9 and its members have been in search of a new fifth player to complete its lineup, asking fellow professional players for advice. Sources did not specify which players Cloud9 will be trialing for the position.
With Slemmy likely out of the starting lineup, it's possible that he remains as a coach for the squad, sources say. The team's current coach Andrew "Irukandji" Timmerman did not attend the ELeague playoffs with the team, as confirmed to ESPN contributor Tomi "lurppis" Kovanen by team captain Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert.
The move to find a new teammate comes after the departure of long-standing manager Tres "Stunna" Saranthus, who left the team after over two years of managing the squad, including when it competed under the compLexity Gaming banner in 2013 and 2014.
Cloud9 did not respond to a request for comment.
