Chris Kavanagh scored the decisive goal with 3:40 left to lift the California Redwoods to a hard-fought 9-8 win over the Utah Archers on Friday night at Zions Bank Stadium in Salt Lake City.
Kavanagh and Dylan Molloy led the Redwoods (3-5) with two goals and one assist apiece and ended California's five-game losing streak. Romar Dennis had two points on a crucial two-point goal that kept momentum alive for the Redwoods. Ryder Garnsey and Charlie Bertrand each chipped in with two points apiece.
Chayse Ierlan stood tall between the pipes for California, recording an impressive 14 saves to keep Utah's potent offense at bay during critical moments.
For Utah (3-6), Mac O'Keefe paced his team offensively with three points (two goals and one assist). Tre Leclaire followed closely behind with two points from one goal and one assist. Beau Pederson scored a two-point goal and Dyson Williams, Connor Field and Piper Bond each had a goal.
Utah goaltender Brett Dobson made 17 saves despite facing relentless pressure from California's offense.
