New York stays hot with its fourth straight win and knocks off California 16-12. (1:12)

The New York Atlas defeated the California Redwoods 16-12 on Friday night in Fairfield, Connecticut, extending their win streak to four games.

The Atlas (5-2) used a strong second-half performance to pull away from the Redwoods (2-5), who have lost five straight games after starting the season 2-0.

Connor Shellenberger led the way for New York with seven assists, setting up teammates all over the field and showcasing his playmaking ability. Jeff Teat added two goals and three assists, while Xander Dickson scored four goals. Matt Traynor contributed three goals, continuing his impressive rookie campaign. Liam Entenmann was solid in goal for New York with 15 saves.

For California, Chris Kavanagh had four goals despite facing tough defensive matchups throughout the game. Ryder Garnsey chipped in two goals and two assists. Andrew McAdorey added two goals.

California's TD Ierlan dominated faceoffs early but left midway through due to blurred vision issues; he returned late but could not turn around momentum against Trevor Baptiste's dominance at the stripe during crucial moments of play.

Up next: The Atlas take on the Maryland Whipsnakes on July 25 at 10:30 p.m. ET in Herriman, Utah. The Redwoods face the Utah Archers that evening at 8 p.m.
