Ryan Griffin told Fox 26 Houston that he is signing a three-year deal to remain with the Texans.
"I'm excited," Griffin told Fox 26. "I know what type of organization it is here. We were a win away from the (AFC) championship game. We need a couple more wins to get that ring. So I'm excited."
Griffin had a career year in 2016, more than doubling his receptions from 2015; he finished with a career-high 50 catches for 442 yards.
He benefited from quarterback Brock Osweiler's high use of his tight ends. Texans tight ends went from being ranked No. 31 in the NFL in receptions in 2015 to second in 2016, according to ESPN Stats & Information.
Griffin, who turned 27 in January, improved in the passing game last season and continued to play well in the run game. According to former Texans offensive coordinator George Godsey, who coached the Texans' offense the past two seasons Griffin was a huge asset because his flexibility allowed the team to use him in different spots.
