Joe "MOV" Egami won the Street Fighter V Capcom Pro Tour Online Asia 2 event over Hong Kong's Chris Wong in a nail-biter of a grand finals, 3-2. The online tournament was a qualifier for the Asia Regional Finals in South Korea.

It was one of the most stacked tournament fields of players, most of who were from Asia, to compete in an event this year. Among the notable names were three top-20 point holders from the Capcom Pro Tour global standings: Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi, MOV and Hail Mary's Goichi "Go1" Kishida. Of the three, Tokido and MOV were trending in a positive direction and represented the biggest threat to take down the online tournament. In addition to the known commodities, there were plenty of sleepers such as Tse "Tse4444" Wa Ping, Park "Xyzzy" Han-Byul, Takeuchi "John Takeuchi" Ryota and Sim "NL" Geon to contend with.

The quality of play was high-caliber and the tournament itself was a great blend of new and old styles of Street Fighter. It combined established veterans like Tokido and MOV with the up-and-coming exciting players like John Takeuchi, and Xyzzy.

The grand finals: Chris Wong against MOV

In the end, it was a relatively unknown name in Chris Wong against one of the greatest Japanese fighting game players ever, MOV. Chris Wong made it through the gauntlet of talent with back-to-back victories over Tokido and NL and surprised many with his polished Nash. He was a master at spacing and routinely baited out his opponent's buttons for the punish.

In the grand finals against MOV, Chris Wong played the majority of the set at an advantage. He calmly controlled the pace and set the offensive flow in his direction with well-spaced projectiles and dashes. MOV made several large comebacks with damaging combos and took full advantage of every opening he was given. In the end, MOV made just enough plays to weather the Chris Wong storm and took down the stacked qualifier.
