Vonleh's expectations in year one

Is there a chance that Noah Vonleh could be the first one-and-done for coach Tom Crean at Indiana? The 6-foot-8 big may be one of the top rebounders in the Big Ten next season, and the forward has drawn raves since stepping onto the Bloomington campus this summer. Assistant Kenny Johnson has marveled at Vonleh's work ethic, stating the big has dedicated himself to solely working out and bettering himself for his first season, and IU coach Tim Buckley spoke with reporters recently about what to expect from Vonleh in his freshman season.

Asked to describe all of the incoming Hoosiers, Buckley expanded on Vonleh's potential offensive contributions: "Obviously physically [Noah] is colege ready. He's very strong very powerful, he's very polished around the basket and explosive. He is going to continue to develop his perimeter game ... and those are areas where he is going to continue to develop and grow."

What will also help Vonleh further his game will be the bounty of minutes he should receive this upcoming season. There is a noticeable void without Cody Zeller, Christian Watford, Maurice Creek, and Derek Elston in the lineup, and though Jeremy Hollowell played well down the stretch last season, the forward is still developing his game. Vonleh should be a player who will benefit from attacking the offensive glass but also receiving low-post touches consistently, and could be the Hoosier to carry IU's frontcourt scoring load. At a recent press conference, Vonleh offered some insight into how he is spending his offseason, preparing for his first year at Assembly Hall: "I've been working hard in the weight room ... I have put on 20 pounds since I been here ... [I am] working hard with different things, ballhandling, footwork, and shooting."
