Jones a high-major target

Derrick Jones was far from unknown when the July evaluation period tipped last week, but the 6-foot-6 wing firmly ensconced himself as one of the top prospects in the class of 2015.

ESPN's Adam Finkelstein reports that while Jones has already drawn offers from programs such as Syracuse, Villanova, Maryland, Seton Hall, and Temple, he also has caught the eyes of John Calipari and Bill Self, and both Kansas and Kentucky recently offered the wing. Finkelstein describes what makes Jones' game so unique, and why the blue bloods of Division I are taking notice.

Jones' recruiting stock skyrockets

"While the surge in [Derrick] Jones' recruitment may be a combination of his natural talent and hard work, it's also something you could see coming in recent months ... What separates Jones isn't just his long 6-foot-6 frame or even his explosive athleticism, but rather that he combines those physical tools with a work ethic to build his skills. That's the main reason why We-R-1 travel team head coach Terrell Myers believes Jones is still only scratching the surface of his potential ... But Jones doesn't limit that improvement solely to the offensive end of the floor. In fact, if you ask him what his best assets are, the first thing he'll mention is his ability on the defensive end."
