Florida still has high expectations for Ronald Powell despite the fact he missed all of the 2012 season due to a knee injury. The Gators' staff should ease Powell into the lineup, but Florida head coach Will Muschamp has plans for the talented pass rusher.
Powell's position will fluctuate based on situation. He's expected to start at "Sam" linebacker and then slide to "buck" linebacker in sub-packages according to Cody Jones of FightinGators.com.
"I fully expect him to be a part of the four-man rush packages when we’re in those situations," Muschamp told Jones.
Powell was the nation's No. 1 athlete in the 2010 recruiting class. He had seven sacks in his first two years on campus before the major injury.
Florida's coaching staff wants to improve the pressure it applies on the quarterback. The team finished 42nd in the nation last year with 30 sacks. Powell will be a major part of the team's defensive plans. It's likely Dante Fowler, Jonathan Bullard and Powell will all be on the field simultaneously to apply as much pressure as possible on opposing quarterbacks.
