After ranking the top 100 NHL prospects for 2015-16 and ranking each team by organizational depth, ESPN Insider Corey Pronman ranks the top 10 prospects for each NHL team. Here is his entry for the Arizona Coyotes. Extended write-ups on prospects ranked in the top 100 can be accessed here.
One of the top pipelines in the NHL, the Coyotes have built an elite stable of forwards off the backs of recent drafts, and acquiring Anthony Duclair in the Keith Yandle trade.
To put it simply, Christian Dvorak had a monstrous season in the OHL, being one of the most improved NHL prospects of the season -- if not the most. Dvorak features a very well-rounded game, with his standout attribute being his great hockey sense. He skates well, is very creative, is a top-end passer and can play in his own end as well. It will be very interesting to see Dvorak on the international stage for the first time, should he make the American team for the IIHF World Junior Championships, as we've yet to see how he fares versus the best in his age group.
Henrik Samuelsson's most vital assets are his size, work ethic and skill, but problems with his speed and hockey sense continue to linger. At times in the AHL he looked fantastic as a rookie; other times, he lagged behind noticeably.
Jens Looke is a highly skilled, shifty playmaker. He's a fine skater, and is technically sound, with above-average speed. Looke can win some battles despite not being overly physical. His reads aren't always perfect, as he can force some decisions.
Christian Fischer has size and skill, and immediately draws eyes when he's on the ice. I've seen flashes of above-average skating, but he's not that explosive out of the gate. Fischer can be very effective when he drives to the net and uses his body, but his physical game is somewhat inconsistent.
Noteworthy prospect
Ryan MacInnis (11th) -- son of Hall of Famer Al MacInnis -- is a big center with size and a lot of skill. I thought his skating, a weakness in his draft season, showed notable improvements six months after his selection. Consistency in his play remains an issue, and he needs more repetitions at higher levels.
2015-16 impact
Klas Dahlbeck was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in part of the Antoine Vermette trade. He's a big, mobile defensive defenseman with a high level of hockey IQ, who is potentially ready to be a full-time NHLer as soon as this season. Max Domi and Anthony Duclair should be full-time players in the top nine if the depth chart allows for it. Dylan Strome will push for time out of camp, but likely needs one more OHL season. Samuelsson could push for NHL ice time this season, as well.
