Adam Schefter, Herm Edwards and Louis Riddick aren't surprised to see the Seahawks invest in offensive line help with the addition of former No. 2 overall pick Luke Joeckel. (0:58)

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a one-year, $8 million deal with Luke Joeckel in a move to strengthen their offensive line, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Joeckel, the No. 2 overall pick in 2013, was general manager Dave Caldwell's first draft pick with the Jaguars. Joeckel became a free agent because Caldwell declined last May to pick up his fifth-year option.

Joeckel, 25, started 35 games at left tackle in his first three seasons but was moved inside to left guard during training camp in 2016 after the Jaguars signed free agent Kelvin Beachum. Joeckel played in only four games, however, because he suffered a season-ending knee injury against Indianapolis in London on Oct. 2. Joeckel tore the ACL, MCL and lateral meniscus in his left knee.

That was the second time he's suffered a significant season-ending injury. He also missed 11 games with a fractured ankle as a rookie in 2013.

Joeckel, who missed only two games over the next two seasons because of a 2015 ankle injury, struggled against quicker rushers. Pro Football Focus tagged Joeckel with allowing eight sacks in 2014, but he did play better in 2015. The team says he allowed seven sacks, including five in the season finale against Houston.

Joeckel gave up one sack in the four games in which he played in 2016 (starting three at left guard and one at left tackle after Beachum suffered a concussion), though quarterback Blake Bortles did scramble into pressure on the sack.
